Anti-Slavery International, founded in
1839, is committed to eliminating all forms of slavery
throughout the world. Slavery, servitude and forced
labour deny basic dignity and fundamental human rights.
Anti-Slavery International exposes cases of slavery,
campaigns for its eradication, supports local
organisations' initiatives to release people, and
presses for effective implementation of laws against
this abuse. To get involved or for more information see

Free the Slaves
We are the American sister-organization of
Anti-Slavery International. We are a partner in the
Amazing Change Campaign organized around the film
celebrating the life and work of Wilberforce. Our
President, Dr. Kevin Bales, the world's foremost
expert on contemporary slavery, has been asked to
give the keynote address at several of the
conferences commemorating the anniversary. We will
be organizing our own events, e-newsletters, and
other educational materials linked to the
anniversary.

International Justice Mission
Founded in 1997, IJM began operations after a
group of human rights professionals, lawyers and
public officials launched an extensive study of the
injustices witnessed by overseas missionaries and
relief and development workers. This study,
surveying more than 65 organizations and
representing 40,000 overseas workers, uncovered a
nearly unanimous awareness of abuses of power by
police and other authorities in the communities
where they served. Without the resources or
expertise to confront the abuse and to bring rescue
to the victims, these overseas workers required the
assistance of trained public justice
professionals. When the poor are hungry, homeless or
alienated, the Church has come to their aid by
providing food, shelter and missionaries to meet the
pressing needs. But when the poor have been
oppressed, treated unjustly and suffered under the
hand of someone more powerful, little was done on
their behalf. Accordingly, IJM was established to
help fill this void, acting as an organization that
stands in the gap for victims when they are left
without an advocate. IJM staff members (human rights
experts, attorneys and law enforcement
professionals) receive case referrals from, and work
in conjunction with, other non-governmental
organizations and casework alliances abroad.

Pocklington School
For nearly 500 years Pocklington School has educated
young people with a broad range of abilities and
interests. Many have gone on to achieve national and
international recognition in a diverse range of
professions. Of its former pupils, none is more
distinguished than William Wilberforce. Wilberforce
was a pupil at Pocklington School for five years,
1771-1776. His active mind, agreeable nature and
talent for singing made him popular. A former
classmate recalled that he 'greatly excelled all the
other boys in his compositions'.
In 2007 the school will honour Wilberforce's
myriad achievements by erecting a full size bronze
sculpture. In contrast with statues in Hull,
Cambridge and Westminster Abbey the Pocklington
statue is intended to be of Wilberforce the
schoolboy looking out on the 18th century world in
which he would play such a part in the service of
humanity.

Stop the Traffik STOP THE TRAFFIK is a
major global coalition working together to help stop
the sale of people, to see the traffickers
prosecuted and to protect the victims of human
trafficking and those vulnerable to this crime.
STOP THE TRAFFIK will raise awareness of the problem
of human trafficking and call for change through the
education of people in source and receiving
countries as well as by equipping them to be
advocates for change. The initiative will also
encourage and help to finance grass roots
anti-trafficking projects around the world. The
initiative will culminate in "Freedom Day" on March
25th 2007 (the Bicentenary of the abolition of the
transatlantic slave trade), which will be a day for
everyone to celebrate liberty and commit to bringing
that freedom to all men, women and children across
the world, particularly by ending the terrible abuse
of human rights, which is human trafficking.

Dream Africa Timed to coincide with the
bicentennial (200 years) anniversary of the
abolition of slave trade, Dream Africa is sponsoring
the Jubilee for Africa 2007. This first ever global
event will mark a turning point in black history.
After the Assembly, participants from US, Europe and
the Caribbean who desire will be assisted to visit
various villages in the slave belt of old where they
can be adopted, receive traditional African names
and keys to the communities. The Black Solemn
Assembly is scheduled for Abuja, February 26-28 2007
so that participants from the Diaspora can fly to
Ghana thereafter to participate in the Golden
Jubilee (50 years of Independence the week after).

Centre for Contemporary Ministry
The Centre for Contemporary Ministry (CCM) is
planning an exhibition to commemorate the
bicentenary of the abolition of slavery and the work
of William Wilberforce next year, 2007.There are
three main exhibitions planned for next year in
London and at Moggerhanger Park. They are all to be
as educative and informative for the public. Whilst
we wish to highlight the slave trade and the battle
that Wilberforce fought, we also wish to show that
it is not by any means over. To this purpose we are
working some anti-slavery organizations, such as
Anti-Slavery International, Stop the Traffik, Chaste
and Justice for Children International. The earliest
exhibition in London is planned to be on a replica
of a slave ship, moored by HMS Belfast. The ship
will be docked over the period of two weekends and
will also be traveling up to Birmingham, Bristol,
Liverpool and hopefully Hull. This will be over the
month from 22nd Feburary-30th March 2007. The second
exhibition is going to be along the South Bank
promenade and will consist of two parts. The first
is that we will have a free standing exhibition that
will allow people to wander in amongst the graphics
and the second will be the various performances
being performed in the Scoop Theatre, which is an
open-air theatre. Alongside these two events we
will be have some exhibitions at our base in
Bedford, Moggerhanger Park. The reason for having an
exhibition at the house is because Moggerhanger Park
was owned by Godfrey Thornton and cousins to
Wilberforce.
